Who wrote the "best CRM for distributors" list you are reading

Search for the best CRM for distributors and the first page is almost entirely lists written by companies on the list. We checked each one, recorded where the publisher placed itself, and wrote down what we found. Including where we sit in the same picture.

What we did

On 19 September 2026 we searched for "crm for distribution companies" and "best crm for distributors" from a United States connection, opened the pages on the first results page, and recorded three things about each: who publishes it, which products it ranks and in what order, and whether it says anywhere that the publisher sells one of them.

This is a small sample read on one day, and search results differ by person and place. Check it yourself; the point of writing the method down is that you can.

What we found

PagePublished byWhere the publisher ranks itselfConflict statement found
"Best CRM for Wholesale Distributors (2026)"Pipedrive, a CRM vendor1st of 5Author byline names Pipedrive. No statement about ranking itself.
"Find the Best CRM For Distributors"White Cup, a distribution CRM vendor1st of 6, with the best ratings in the tableNone found. No date on the page either.
"10 Best CRM for Wholesale Distribution (2026)"SimplyDepo, a distribution CRM vendor1st of 10Byline says the author is SimplyDepo's marketing manager. No statement about ranking itself.
"CRM software for distributors: 13 platforms"monday.com, a CRM vendor1st of 13None found in the article.
"Top 6 CRM Software for Wholesale Distributors: An Honest Comparison"Proton, a distribution CRM vendorOn its own listSays it is written by Proton's team.
"The Benefits of a CRM for Distribution Companies"Cargas, an implementerSells no CRM of its ownNames the three vendors it implements and identifies itself as an implementation partner, near the end.

Four of the six pages are lists published by a CRM vendor that put itself in first place. None of those four carried a sentence telling the reader that the company writing the ranking is being ranked.

This is ordinary, and it is still worth knowing

None of this is a scandal. A company writing about its own category and placing itself first is doing marketing, which is what a vendor blog is for. Proton's page is titled "An Honest Comparison" and does say it comes from Proton's team, which is more than most.

The useful conclusion is narrower: these pages are advertisements with a comparison table in them, and reading five of them does not give you five opinions. It gives you five companies each explaining why they win. The shortlist you come away with is the set of companies that spend most on content, which is a different thing from the set that fits your business.

Cargas is the contrast worth noticing. It does not sell a CRM, so its page discusses three products it implements and says so. The conflict is still there, it is just a different one, and the page tells you about it.

One page cites a number that we could not trace

While reading these, we followed a statistic that appears across the category: distribution-specific CRM products score about 7.5 out of 10 for satisfaction, ERP-provided about 5.1, and custom-built about 2.7, attributed to Distribution Strategy Group.

We looked for the original. The vendor page quoting it does not link one. We read the two public Distribution Strategy Group reports most likely to hold it and did not find the figures in the text of either. Charts in those reports are images, so a number printed inside one would not show up in a text search, which means we cannot call the figure wrong. We can say we could not get to its source.

That trail, and what the number is probably measuring, is written up separately in why distributors rate custom CRM lowest.

Where we sit in this picture

We are in it. Goodstack builds custom systems, so we have an interest in you not concluding that packaged software always wins. This site exists to find work.

What we try to do about that is keep our claims checkable. The lists above are named so you can open them. The reports are named with their dates. Where we could not verify something, this page says exactly that, and stops there. Our own worked example, beLoved Health, is a company one of us runs, which we state every time we mention it, because it is not an independent reference.

And the honest version of our own recommendation is in the custom CRM guide: most distributors should buy something, not build it.

How to read the next list you open

Four questions, in order.

Who publishes this, and do they sell one of the things on it? The answer is in the footer or the byline. If the publisher is first on its own list, you are reading a brochure.

What does the ranking measure? Look for the criteria. If the page ranks products without saying what it scored them on, the order is an opinion presented as a finding.

Is it dated, and does the date match the content? One of the pages above carries no date at all. Pricing and feature claims age fast.

What is missing from every list? Across these pages, the products vary and the categories do not. Every list compares CRM products to other CRM products. None of them asks whether the workflow costing you the most time is one a CRM handles at all. That question is the rep-to-order worksheet, and it is worth answering before you shortlist anything.

If after that you do want a vendor shortlist, the scorecard for choosing a CRM for wholesale distributors is ours, with its criteria written down so you can disagree with them.
